A Showcase of Contemporary Chicana and Chicano Artists
In association with Bilingual Press, Amber Lotus is proud to present the Chicano Art 2008 wall calendar, showcasing the extraordinary works of contemporary Chicano and Chicana artists. These works bring into sharp focus the rich diversity of an art movement that is now achieving full recognition in the art community at large. This lavish and comprehensive collection features art from established masters as well as emerging artists, on themes that include community values, borders and biculturalism, spirituality, personal feeling and shared experiences, cultural icons and nontraditional representations.
"Chicano art is powerful... it has the ability to reach across ethnic groups and class lines, to captivate greatly diverse viewers... Chicano art is distinctly American art. The time has come to place Chicano art within the context of American art history."

Sample Caption: First Aztec on the Moon, by Santiago Perez
Santiago Perez is well known for juxtaposing unlikely imagery, and he excels with that technique in First Aztec on the Moon. Against a black horizon worthy of a moonscape, we view an incongruous, mostly bare-skinned Aztec warrior sporting a loincloth and a kneepad resembling equipment that pre-Hispanic Amerindian competitors used in their sacred ball games. While the warrior does not wear a spacesuit, he does have a space helmet of sorts, although it mostly resembles a gas mask..
