As one of the most exciting art movements of our time, environmental art celebrates our connection to the natural world through beauty, science, metaphor and ecological restoration. It can encompass a surprising landscape of approaches from ephemeral "art in nature" sculpture designed to last only a few hours before returning to the earth, to community-based "eco-art" installations which clean up polluted watersheds and promote public understanding of local and global environmental issues.
The artworks featured in the Environmental Art 2008 wall calendar were drawn from the global archives of greenmuseum.org, a not-for-profit online museum of environmental art. It provides a sampling of some of the latest developments in this field to stimulate the imagination and promote the role of art in the creation of a more sustainable world culture.
A portion of the sales are of this title go to benefit greenmuseum.org, a not for profit online museum of environmental art.

Heart of Reeds, Chris Drury, UK, 2005
The "Heart of Reeds Project" was inspired by the double vortex form of the human heart known as the "Cardiac Twist." It combines art, science and ecology to create a water-purifying landscape of reeds which processes storm water from reclaimed lands along the Lewes Railway, in the artist's home town in England. This project includes trails and walkways as well as an ongoing educational program to engage students and local residents..
