Forgiveness, Protection, Wisdom, Compassion
In Buddhist thought, the ego is the source of illusion or samsara. How can we cross the vast ocean of samsara and reach the state of enlightenment? One helper in this task is White Tara, the merciful goddess. She is a vessel of love, waiting to save us from drowning in illusion. Mythically, Tara was once a Buddhist nun. In the course of a dispute with some monks, she made a vow to achieve Buddhahood in female form. She has a wisdom eye in her forehead, "action" eyes on her hands and feet, and the crown and ornaments of a tenth-stage Bodhisattva on her head.
Suggested meditation for compassion and protection:
Relax your body and allow your mind to clear. Breathe deeply and slowly. Gaze at the image of White Tara. Repeat the mantra: OM TARE TUTTARE TORE SWAHA. Close your eyes and visualize a blue light emanating from the seven eyes of White Tara and flowing in ribbons of beautiful light into your heart. Allow this light to flood through your heart and nourish your entire being.
