Text on back of card:
As Salt of the Earth: The old Celtic traditions are like a packet of hardy seeds arrived from an old and faraway land: they bear the germ of life, but need proper tending if they are to germinate. To root and flourish they must draw nourishment from their new environment, and our century is a very different ground than the one where they first formed. If the Celtic Way is to be relevant today, it must sink roots in the wider field of knowledge which is the defining quality of our time.
Peering here into the heart of solidity, into this elemental plane, we can miraculously perceive the lay of its tiniest atomic particles. And looking closely, discover those particles, and indeed this world, even ourselves, are made up finally of waves, shapeshifting waves, no real solidity behind substance. Look! the children turn to swans!
The floating atom-flowers form a three-dimensional grid which, it turns out, is the exact molecular pattern of salt, a most common and necessary thing. An appropriate meditation: salt gives flavor to all foods. It is lowly, still nothing can surpass it, common as the sea, plain as earth, essential as bread.
May we then be as the salt of the earth, and so sit in the seat of honor and glimpse the vastness of eternity.
