Environmental Statement

We Plant Trees — more than ONE MILLION and growing!

Amber Lotus Publishing is proud to be a carbon-negative independent publisher with a dedication to environmental stewardship. Since 2008 we have been planting trees to offset our carbon footprint and resource usage by partnering with Trees for the Future (TREES).

TREES is a non-profit agroforestry resource center that helps communities across six countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. TREES has planted over 149 million trees since 1989. As of January 2021, Amber Lotus Publishing has funded the planting of 1,050,000 trees. In addition to removing CO2 from the atmosphere, these trees help restore degraded land, reverse deforestation, improve soil quality, and augment local standards of living. Read more about our tree planting philosophy on our blog — Art, Commerce, and Service.

Carbon Negative

We planted 125,000 trees in 2019 which increased our total number of trees planted to 1,000,000. The trees planted in 2019 are about 53 times greater than the estimated 2,352 trees used to produce our 2019 product line (which includes our 2020 calendars). We have committed to planting an additional 200,000 trees in 2020. One of the advantages of planting trees as a carbon footprint offset strategy is that they remove CO2 from the atmosphere on an ongoing basis. TREES estimates that the 1,200,000 trees planted and committed to will remove 21,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually. This is more than 12 times greater than the estimated 1,655 tons of CO2 generated by our 2019 printing activities. These benefits are summarized in the table below:

Planted (2008–2019) 1,000,000   Planted (2008–2019) 17,500
Minimum Commitment 2020 200,000   Minimum Commitment 2020 3,500
2019 Wall Calendars 1,470   2019 Wall Calendars 1,035
Catalog & Other Products 882   Catalog & Other Products 620
TOTAL 2,352   TOTAL 1,655

*** Please note that the numbers presented may vary from the information provided on our calendars and other printed products. The numbers here are updated frequently using the most current calculations provided by TREES.
