New 2018 Calendar — Rumi Mystical Sufi Poetry: Persian art by Farah Ossouli with translations by Coleman Barks
Jelaluddin Rumi (1207–1273) was a master of ecstatic poetry whose passionate verses have endured over the ages. Rumi’s illuminating words have inspired countless people throughout history, and today, thanks to the magical translations of poet Coleman Barks, they are more popular than ever.
This exquisite calendar pairs Barks’s thoughtful translations with contemporary Persian art by Farah Ossouli. Heavily influenced by traditional Persian miniatures, Ossouli’s rich and intricate paintings beautifully complement Rumi’s mystical metaphors, in which the yearning for the divine beloved represents the soul’s quest for wholeness. While growing up in Iran, Ossouli developed a love for painting and storytelling that continues to inspire and infuse her work. Her paintings resonate with viewers the world over and have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the United States, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
